OUR COMMUNITY

Where ever there is a sporting, cultural or community event taking place Cobh Credit Union won’t be far behind. We maintain close ties with all the organisations in the town and will always offer a helping hand to these organisations particularly where this involves the promotion of health and fitness in the younger population.

We support local enterprise and business on an ongoing basis such as:

  • Keatings Londis

Significant areas that we have a strong connection are;

Cobh Tidy towns

We continue to be the main sponsor of Cobh Tidy Towns and our funding has helped them attain a bronze medal award in 2011 and a silver medal in 2012. We have committed to fund them up to 2014. We salute the work the volunteers carry out on behalf of the entire Island.

Cobh Golf Club

Cobh Golf Club was opened in 2010 by Shane Lowry (Portuguese masters winner 2012) Cobh completed and opened their club with the assistance of Cobh Credit Club. We are a long standing supporter of Cobh Golf Club and sponsor the Ladies & Gents competition on an annual basis. We have also help fund the under 16’s in their quest for all Ireland victory in 2011.

Community Centre

Cobh Community Centre is a project that was 10 years in the making and the completition was made possible with the intervention of Cobh Credit Union.

Bursary

Now in its fifth year  we have funded the third level education of Cobh Students since 2007 to the tune of €50,000.

Sports & Cultural Bursary

In 2011 Cobh introduced a sports and cultural Bursary for young talented Cobh boys and girls, we awarded 5 young talents, 2 musicians and three sports people €750.00 each to further their chosen talent.

Sean Long who is an exceptional guitarist is currently studying music in London and is one to look out for in the future.

Ian O’Rourke continues to improve his Golfing talent and much is expected of Ian in the coming years.

David Gardiner has gone on to become a very exciting talent in the sport of Tennis.

Below is a list of David’s tennis achievements in 2012:

David was ranked as number one boy in Ireland u16 for 2012 as a result of winning the following titles:

  • He is the Irish Open Winner for 2012 held at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club, Dublin in August this year – the 1st boy to win the title from Rushbrooke Lawn Tennis Club since 1949
     
  • He Holds the National Indoor and Outdoor championship titles for 2012
  • He also represented Munster on the Junior and Senior teams.
  • He was a member of the Rushbrooke senior team who won the Munster Senior Cup (photo attached) and the u18 team who won the u18 Munster Cup (photo attached). He represented Rushbrooke in both cups

GAA

We have a long association with Cobh GAA and give generous sponsorship to the street leagues every Autumn.

Library

We are a strong advocate of learning and the value that books bring to people’s lives. We retain a strong link with Cobh Library and fund them in any way we can.

Cobh Hospital

Is a small local Hospital providing the needs to the elderly of Cobh often in the last years of their Life. Every year at our AGM we have given  very needy assistance to the Friends of Cobh Hospital so that they can continue this

SVDP

We give very generous funding to the SVDP coal fund locally every year to help the less well off.
